Our client specialises in the residential care, education and domiciliary care for children and young people with autistic spectrum disorders, learning and physical disabilities.
They recently acquired a new residential care home needing extensive refurbishment. The home was supplied with water from a Private Water Supply derived from a spring and surface run off.
The existing source tank had effectively collapsed and overgrowth was evident. The main pipe run had been damaged and the existing treatment system was far too small for the proposed upgrade.
The water supply flow and pressure to the property was very poor as the source supply gravity fed into a number of loft tanks inside the property which then delivered water to various services within the property. The tanks were also in very poor condition, failing to meet even the most basic hygiene standards.
Access Utilities (UK) Ltd were asked to undertake a site survey to evaluate and recommend the necessary improvements to the water supply; source storage tank and water treatment equipment to ensure that the resultant treated water for the upgraded care home would meet the required drinking water standards laid down in the Private Water Supply Regulations.
Our fixed price quotation was accepted for all works required and the civil works commenced early October 2016.
A new water storage tank was installed on the hillside behind the property and a new secure outer block built main chamber was erected around the tank with all the necessary isolation and access points. New pipe services were run from the tank to the dedicated plant room on the side of the building and then from the plant room to the services inside the property with the view to providing a direct pressurised treated water supply. (Removing the loft tanks and the potential health hazards associated with bacterial growth within the tanks).
On the 19th October 2016, the new water treatment system was installed and the system was commissioned on the 24th October 2016, all work being completed that day, the overall contract taking less than one month to complete.
A treated water sample was taken for analysis the results obtained on the 28th October 2016 provided a PASS RESULT for all parameters tested allowing the system to provide water to the newly renovated property.
Below are a number of real time photographs showing the overall project and work detail.
Access Utilities( UK )Ltd are to provide a service and maintenance schedule with fixed price costs to ensure that the new water treatment system continues to provide safe clean water for use at the specialist residential care home.
